Falkville VFW to host fundraiser

By Martha Jackson

The Falkville VFW Post will hold a fundraiser Bingo event Sept. 4, with warm-ups at 5:45 p.m. and Bingo starting at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a $1,000 jackpot, and all proceeds from the event will go to the Falkville Police Department.

The VFW is located at 784 Culver Road in Falkville. Doors will open at 3 p.m., and Bingo cards will go on sale at 5 p.m.

The VFW Auxiliary has Bingo every Tuesday – starting at 5:45 p.m. for five early games then at 6:30 p.m. for regular Bingo. Half of the money thay make on Tuesdays goes back into the community.

For example, they helped more than 200 families with back-to-school supplies, plus provided the families with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks, snow cones and cotton candy. They also had water slides and bounce houses.

They have a car show coming, plus Halloween fun and a Christmas party are also planned.

Everyone is invited to come out and help support the Auxiliary and the community work they do.

July 30 the Falkville Fire and Rescue Department responded to two separate residential fires.

Just before 5:30 a.m. they were dispatched to a residential fire in the Ebenezer community. Engine 1 and 3 responded to the call.

Engine 1 arrived on the scene with a crew of two personnel. The Engine 1 crew extinguished the fire and performed salvage and overhaul.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The agencies involved were the Falkville Fire Department and the Morgan County 911.

Just before 6 a.m., Engine 3 was diverted from the first fire to respond to assist at a large two-story residential fire in Danville. Engine 3 responded with a crew of two.

Once on the scene, personnel assisted with fire suppression and salvage and overhaul. This was a extensive operation that lasted well into the day.

No injuries were reported.

This fire response showed teamwork among multiple agencies from two counties working together. Thanks to Decatur Fire and Rescue for responding and providing assistance with their rehab trailer. Other agencies involved were Danville Fire and Rescue, Falkville Fire and Rescue, Massey Fire Department, Moulton Fire Department, Mud Tavern Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Neel Fire Department, Punkin Center Fire Department, Speake Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance Service and Morgan County 911.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers and area fire and rescue departments and all others who devote their time to serve their communities. May God bless each and every one of you.
