Hartselle Volleyball finishes runner-up at the Huntsville Ironman Tournament

The Hartselle Volleyball team traveled to Huntsville to play in the Huntsville Ironman Tournament at Huntsville High School last Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers were matched against 7A No. 5 Sparkman, No. 8 Bob Jones, and 6A No. 1 Hazel Green in pool play. Hartselle went 1-2 in pool play with a win against Sparkman (25-17, 25,19) and losses Hazel Green (25-21, 18-25, 14-16) and Bob Jones (15-25, 21-25).

Hartselle went into bracket play as the eighth seed. They opened with ninth-seeded Huntsville and defeated the 7A No. 9 Panthers 25-11, 25-16.

Next up was the tourney’s top-seed, Buckhorn, in the quarterfinals. The Tigers defeated the 6A No. 6 Bucks 25-17, 25-17.

In the semi-finals, the Tigers defeated 6A No. 9 Athens 25-17, 25-17.

Hartselle faced off with Hazel Green in the finals. The Trojans came out on top with a 25-16, 25-20 victory.

Lillyanna Cartee led the Tiger attack with 61 kills, 41 digs, and four blocks while Hailey Holshouser had 63 digs along with 40 kills and five aces. Grace Tapscott finished with 127 assists, 29 digs, and nine aces, Jessica Jarrett had 49 digs, 19 kills, and six blocks, Jadyn Chesser had 19 digs, 14 kills, and four blocks. Emory Carnes had 29 digs, Tori Hughes added 28 digs, and Megan Lee finished with 23 digs.

The No. 4 Tigers (14-8) will host Muscle Shoals (area game) and Arab on Tuesday night.
