Funeral for John W. Tanner, 75, of Danville was Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating.
Burial was in Herring Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Tanner died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Morgan County to John Newt Tanner and Ura Bell Teague Tanner. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. in Decatur. He was a deacon at Danville Baptist Church, a director on ALFA Farmers Federation Board, a supervisor on the Morgan County Conservation District and served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Vellene Tanner of Danville; two sons, Steve Tanner and Jim Tanner, both of Danville; one daughter, Joni Simms of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Nell Howell of Hartselle; eight grandchildren, Justin Tanner, Leslie Tanner, Jared Tanner, Jonathan Tanner, Logan Tanner, Travis Tanner, Abbey Simms and Audrey Simms.
Pallbearers were Mark Tanner, Grad Tanner, Pat Howell, Billy James, Joe Fitzgerald and Gary White.
Memorials may be made to the Danville Baptist Church.
