Enquirer announces new writer

The Enquirer has welcomed a new staff writer to its team of news professionals.

Calvin Cooley comes to the Hartselle Enquirer with 10 years of experience at newspapers in Florence, Decatur and Moulton.

Cooley, 33, studied communications – with an emphasis in print and online journalism – at the University of North Alabama in Florence and is a 2004 graduate of Muscle Shoals High School.

His journalism career began in August 2008 in the sports department of The TimesDaily in Florence, where he helped with coverage of local high school, junior college and Division II collegiate athletics. He has also covered sports, crime and local events for The Decatur Daily since 2012.

He briefly served as a sports writer for The Moulton Advertiser in 2014.

“I’m excited to get out into the community and work to bring news to the people of Hartselle,” Cooley said. “I’ve lived in Hartselle in the past and am familiar with the community served by the Enquirer. I look forward to working with local leaders and officials to keep that community informed of happenings around Hartselle.”

Outside of the office, Cooley enjoys reading, board and card games and sports. He is an avid fan of Duke men’s basketball and college football. His 8-year-old daughter, Madilyn, is a student at Leon Sheffield Magnet School in Decatur.

News tips and story ideas can be emailed to him at calvin.cooley@hartsellenenquirer.com.
