Hartselle takes home win against Cullman

By Sam Roberts

The Tigers entered Friday night’s matchup unbeaten and ranked 5th versus their long-time rival, Cullman (3-5), in the two teams 97th meeting.

Midway through the opening quarter, Godsey found Braxton Miller downfield who broke free for a 50-yard touchdown hookup, which gave Hartselle a 7-0 lead. The Tigers then extended their lead behind a 36-yard field goal from Bryan Munoz with 9 minutes to go in the first half.

Cullman continued to struggle to find any momentum against a stout Hartselle defense and failed to find any momentum in the first half as they were scoreless at halftime.

Hartselle came out hot to start the second half as Brinten Barclay plunged into the end-zone after a 31 yard carry with 10 minutes remaining in the quarter

The Tigers strengthened their lead being another field goal from Munoz, but the Bearcats soon found the end-zone behind a 1-yard carry from Ezra Burks, trimming the Tiger advantage to 17-7.

Hartselle held on to their lead for the remainder of the night as Munoz sank another field goal and Hartselle went on to win 20-7, securing Coach Bob Godsey his Hartselle record of 138 wins, passing former Coach Don Woods.
