Peggy Bailey Durand

June 15, 2015

A graveside service for Peggy Bailey Durand, 79, of Somerville was Mon., June 22, in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Cain officiating.

Mrs. Durand died June 15, 2015 at her home. She was born Oct. 1, 1935 in Morgan County to Grady and Bernice Bailey. Mrs. Durand spent her professional career as a federal civil servant, culminating as a Security Specialist with the Department of the Army. After retiring in 1988, she became a benevolent caregiver for several members of her family. A member of Shiloh Baptist Church since 1972, her witness for the Lord was best exemplified in her selfless devotion to others. Compassionate, feisty, and fiercely independent, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Nothing made her happier than sitting on her back porch and talking with her grandchildren, watching her great-grandson play, and spending time in Virginia with her family.  Her family cherishes the comfort of those memories of love and laughter. Mrs. Durand was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 46 years, Robert Durand.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Reeves (Jerry) of Somerville and Shari Durand of Fairfax Station, Va.; two sisters, Zana Thompson (Lynn) of Massey and Sybil Arnold (Jack) of Cullman; three grandchildren, Tyler Reeves (Laura) of Birmingham, Anna Peck (Arthur) of Hartselle, and Kyle Durand of Fairfax Station, Va.; and one great-grandson, James Mason Peck.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, Somerville.
