Oct. 29, 1960-the “M” Club at MCHS has selected new leaders: Doug Turney, president; Gerry Rollins, vice-president; Paul Beard, treasurer; Tommy Burns, reporter; and Charles Penn, secretary.
Oct. 29, 1960-The Crestline Elementary School Halloween carnival tonight was sponsored by the PTA. Games of bingo were enjoyed by those in attendance as well as a spook room and grab bag.
Oct. 29, 1960-The Music-Art Group met in Falkville today at the home of Dianne Alston. Robert Skidmore is president of the club. The counselor, Annie Ruth Waldsmith, told the Greek myth of Perseus and his slaying of Gorgon.
Oct. 30, 1960-Arthur Knox was recently promoted to private first class in Germany where he is a member of the 37th Artillery. Pvt. Knox is a 1959 MCHS graduate.
Oct. 30, 1960-Plans have been okayed to build a new A & P Supermarket at the intersection of Highways 31 and 36. Comer Tankersley will build the store on land he owns next to his service station. The new building will take the place of the old A & P store on West Main Street managed by Grady Freeman.
Oct. 31, 1960-Although a vast crowd of trick or treaters was out in Hartselle tonight for Halloween, they apparently behaved themselves. Police reported no acts of vandalism. They only locked up two drunks during the night. Every store in Hartselle had well-soaped windows, as did most cars left out overnight.
Oct. 31,1960-The city library reopened today. The Hartselle city council has appropriated sufficient money to keep it in operation for the foreseeable future. It has been closed for the past month. Mrs. L. M. Hatcher is the librarian.
Nov. 1, 1960—Piggly Wiggly advertises that it gives S&H Green Stamps, billed as “America’s oldest, most reliable stamp plan.”
Nov. 2, 1960—Stewart Bros. Motor Co. is currently offering a motor tune-up for $3.50 plus parts.
Nov. 3, 1960-Mrs. Ellen T. Doss, 88, wife of the late C. C. Doss, died this morning after an illness of several months’ duration. Three daughters and six sons survive her. Funeral services will be tomorrow at First Methodist Church with the Revs. S. E. Paulk and J. R. Havener officiating. Mrs. Doss was the daughter of Jake C. and Judy Moore Hartselle and the granddaughter of George Hartselle, pioneer for whom the town of Hartselle was named.
Nov. 3, 1960-Police arrested three men for DUI over the past weekend. One guy was fined $103 and his driver’s license was revoked. Two were fined $28 for public drunkenness.
Nov.  3, 1960-Cadet Larry B. Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Roberts, has been promoted to the rank of company captain at Marion Military Institute.
Nov. 3, 1960-Dr. and Mrs. T. M. Guyton are attending the 54th annual meeting of the Southern Medical Association this week in St. Louis, Mo.
