Westminster runs past Falkville

HUNTSVILLE – Westminster scored five touchdowns in the opening quarter on the way to a 49-0 victory over Falkville Friday night in a Class 2A, Region 7 game.
Falkville dropped to 0-5 in region play and overall with the loss that put the Blue Devils at risk of missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
Brad Vest, in his first season as the head coach of the Blue Devils, is still seeking his first career victory.
The Westminster offense made sure that Vest wouldn’t celebrate that inaugural win Friday night with seven touchdowns in the first 17 minutes of play.
Cody Dixon ran for three touchdowns in the win and finished the night with 114 yards on the ground. He scored on runs on 75, 16 and nine yards.
Austin Kaigler added a 53-yard touchdown run in the first half. He finished with 84 yards on the ground with just five attempts.
Falkville, who has been shut out twice this season, was limited to just 59 yards of total offense in the loss.
The Blue Devils threw for 48 yards and finished with two interceptions that ended possessions in the game.
The Blue Devils’ offense was hampered when quarterback Tyler Anders was injured on Falkville’s first possession.
Westminster Christian stayed in the hunt for the region championship with the win. The Wildcats trail both Tanner and West End in the region standings with four weeks left in region play.
Falkville will be seeking its first win this week when the Blue Devils host winless Cold Springs.
