Funeral for Grace R. Compton, 85, of Decatur was Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Compton officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Compton died Friday, May 1, 2009, at her residence. She was born June 23, 1923, in Kentucky to Paul Freeman Ramage and Albia Eliza Beard Ramage. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Danville and was dedicated to her Lord Jesus Christ, her family and her church. She was a prayer warrior and encourager to all who knew her. She loved her Sunday School class, working with mission mates and Vacation Bible School. She always had a smile and a great sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey E. Compton; her parents; and a sister, Mildred Murray.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Compton and wife Kim of Decatur; two daughters, Joan Ellis and husband Gilmer and Connie Mize and husband Michael A., all of Hartselle; seven grandchildren, Russell Ellis, Rodney Ellis, Michael B. Mize and wife Tiffany, John Mize and wife Sarah, Scott Ellis and wife Alyson, Brian Ellis and Clay Compton; six great-grandchildren, Lauren Ellis, Ethan Ellis, Graham Ellis, Reid Ellis, Annsley Grace Ellis and Laura Mize.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
