DECATUR - Priceville’s Brett Wilson shook off the cold and windy conditions Monday afternoon to win the second annual Morgan County Golf Tournament by two strokes at Burningtree Country Club.
Wilson shot a three-over 75 and teammate Nic Akin was two strokes back at 77 to lead the Bulldogs to the county championship.
Priceville finished with a team score of 336 to win the boys’ title by 16 strokes over Austin.
Hartselle was third with a team score of 357, followed by Danville (381), Decatur Heritage (389), Falkville (398) and West Morgan (487).
Austin won the girls’ team title with a 275. Hartselle was second at 309, followed by Danville (383) and Falkville (385).
Wilson, a sophomore at Priceville, finished in the top 15 last year after shooting a 79 at Quail Creek. But in less than ideal conditions Monday, the Priceville golfer took four strokes off his score from the 2007 tournament. His score was one shot better than county tournament’s record set in the inaugural tournament last spring.
Akin shot a 77 to earn all-county honors.
Other players to earn all-county honors were Falkville’s Dustin Gatlin; Hartselle’s Josh Robertson; and Austin’s Madison Terry and Zach Gourgeot.
Priceville’s Paul Etheridge shot a 91, while Micah Rigoni was two strokes back at 93 to wrap up the Bulldogs’ team score of 336. Jameson Dozier finished with a round of 101.
Now the Bulldogs would like to build on the county championship with some solid play over the next month of the season.
Matthew Hill shot an 88 for Hartselle, while Kaleb Estes and Adam Sandor both finished with rounds of 92 for the Tigers.
Clark Gulley and Zac Maples finished at 115 and 125 respectively.
Danville finished third in the boys’ team standings with the help of Dillon Childers’ 88. Daniel Brown and David Bates finished at 93 and 97 respectively, while Russell Standridge shot a 103. Andy Lafavor finished at 104.
Brewer’s boys were led by Cody Lanford’s 101. Spenser Harvel shot a 106, while Spencer D’Olive and Chad Childers were at 107. Houston Lanford shot a 111.
Austin won the girls’ team title after Sloan Davis wrapped up her second straight county individual title with a round of 83.
The Lady Black Bears’ Kristin Askew shot a 90 to finish second.
Hartselle’s Kaylon King and Arin Eddy had rounds of 93 and 96 to earn all-county honors. They were joined on the all-county team by Priceville’s Abbie Harris and Austin’s Erin Reid.
Hartselle’s King and Eddy helped lead the Lady Tigers to a second place finish. Cassidy Mayfield and Mary Roberts shot 120 and 123 respectively.
Danville’s girls were led by Grace Oaks’ 125 and Chelsea Keenum’s 127. Jordan Spinks shot a 131 for the Lady Hawks, while Kayla Latta shot a 133.
Gatlin was the only Falkville golfer to break 100. Jake Thomas finished at 101, while Nathan Knowles shot a 103. Garrett Miller had a 117 and Travis Blankenship shot a 128.
Falkville’s Summar Hargrove and Stephanie Hargrove shot 121 and 129 respectively. Hollis Merritt finished with a 135, while Jenny Newcomb came in at 142.
Priceville’s Callie Cox finished with a 102 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Brewer’s Rachael Butler had a 109, while teammate Sydney Hall was at 138.
