Falkville stops Aggies in tourney

Falkville beat Vinemont 5-1 last week in the Cullman Umpires’ Tournament at West Point with a strong pitching performance from Katelynne Smith.
Smith allowed just five hits in the win, while striking out two.
The Lady Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sarah Goodman tripled and scored on an RBI single by Megan Hill.
Falkville picked up another run in the second inning with the help of two Vinemont errors. Samantha Davis had a double to drive in the run.
The Lady Blue Devils put the game out of reach in the fourth inning with three runs. Katie Annerton singled and Haley Stinson reached on a fielder’s choice, while Davis and Goodman both were walked.
Hill, who finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, came up with a two-out single to score two runs.
Vinemont’s only run came in the fourth inning.
Danville 3, Falkville 2
Danville took advantage of a late error to beat Falkville.
Megan Hill had an RBI triple for Falkville in the fourth inning and later scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Lady Blue Devils an early lead.
Danville tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth inning with a fielder’s choice by Lacey Evans and a line drive hit by Brittany Atkins.
The Lady Hawks got the game-winner when Kimberley Lindsay scored on an error.
