Falkville Park getting upgrade

Jack McCaig Park in Falkville is undergoing a major renovation and will be closed for at least two weeks, according to Matt Stiles, mayor pro tem.

“Every inch of ground in the park is involved,” Stiles said. “Grading and drainage work is being done by District III Commissioner Don Stisher and his crew. “We’re going to install a sprinkler system and follow that by putting down sod with the help of Falkville football players.”

In addition, new playground equipment will be installed, the pavilion will be repainted and the walking trail will be upgraded.

The work is being done with the assistance of a Community Development Block and a discretionary state grant, which was obtained by State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur.

Stile estimated that the cash outlay for the project would be about $30,000.

The park opened in 1995.
