Priceville, Falkville to meet for third straight Morgan County girls final, while Danville, Brewer meets in the boys’ final

The Priceville Lady Bulldogs will be looking for their third straight Morgan County Tournament title when they meet the Falkville Lady Blue Devils in the finals for the third consecutive season. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Falkville last season 79-24 and 66-37 in 2022.

The boys’ final will see the top-seeded Danville Hawks and the host team, Brewer Patriots. The Hawks last won the county title in 2022 with a 49-46 win over Priceville. The Patriots are looking for their first title since 2010, which capped off a stretch of five championships in seven seasons.

Girls’ Semifinals
Priceville 47, West Morgan 37

Priceville jumped out to a 17-10 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back in their 47-37 semifinal win over West Morgan. They led 23-19 at halftime and 36-27 heading into the final quarter.

Abby Langlois had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four steals to lead the Lady Bulldogs (14-11). Ashlyn Johnson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Carly Nelson added nine points. Lillyan Bloodworth had eight points.

Haniyah Standridge led West Morgan (12-10) with 14 points, while Jordyn Free scored 10.

Falkville 50, Brewer 35
Falkville took an early 9-5 lead only to see Brewer outscored them 14-7 in the second quarter to take a 19-16 lead into halftime. The Lady Blue Devils hit three-pointers in the third quarter to outscore the Lady Patriots 20-8 to take a 36-27 lead into the final quarter.

Abbey Grace Tomlin finished with 17 points and nine steals to lead Falkville (13-13). Leah Pierce added 15 points and eight steals.

Chloe Romine finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for Brewer (11-13).

Boys’ Semifinals
Danville 62, West Morgan 57

The Hawks soared to a 22-9 first-quarter lead and were looking to cruise into the Morgan County Tournament finals, but West Morgan had different thoughts. The Rebels cut the lead by only one point, 46-34 heading into the fourth quarter. But they made some noise in the fourth, drawing as close as four points, but Danville held on for the 62-57 win.

Ty Bailey finished with 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Danville (16-7). AJ Holladay had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals, while Ben Ellenburg added eight points. Makih Boyd and Huntley Segars scored seven points each.

Josh Garland led West Morgan (10-13) with 22 points, while Jalen Fletcher finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Brewer 51, Falkville 40
What was a close game in the first quarter as Brewer led 12-9 turned into a blowout as the Patriots outscored Falkville 16-3 in the second quarter to take a 28-12 lead into halftime. The Blue Devils outscored Brewer 17-13 in the third to trail 41-29 heading into the final quarter. The Patriots held off Falkville to win 51-40.

Austyn Holmes finished with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Brewer (11-13). Jackson Dunn added 13 points and five rebounds.

Dawson Fowlers had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Falkville (12-14). Eli Harris added 14 points and five rebounds, while Lincoln Jones had 10 rebounds.

Girls’ First Round
West Morgan 50, Danville 45

West Morgan dominated much of the game with Danville in the first round of the Morgan County Tournament. The Lady Rebels led 12-8 after the first, 28-19 at halftime and 40-31 going into the fourth quarter. But the Lady Hawks dug deep and battled back with a 14-5 run to tie the game at 45-45 with a little over a minute remaining. West Morgan rallied to end the Danville run and held on for the 50-45 win.

Haniyah Standridge led West Morgan with 12 points, while Addison Knowlton and Chasity Rikard each had eight.

Madalyn McCreless finished with 15 points to lead Danville.

Boys’ First Round
West Morgan 57, Priceville 54

Priceville and West Morgan met in this year’s first round after meeting last season in the County Tournament finals. This game proved to be as exciting as last year’s game, won by West Morgan.

The Rebels led 14-13 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 31-22 at halftime. Priceville battled back to cut the lead to 42-41 heading into the final quarter. They finished their comeback, taking a 46-42 lead early in the fourth. The teams battled back and forth the remainder of the game, with West Morgan taking the lead late and holding on for the 57-54 win.

Landon Henderson finished with 18 points to lead the Rebels, while Fletcher and Jay Garland added 11 points each.

Sammy Holmes had 22 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead Priceville. Luke Hood added 13 points and four assists and Caleb Lawrence had 12 points and five rebounds.
