American Legion has busy fall with community events

Special to the Enquirer

Hartselle’s American Legion Post 52 Legion and Auxiliary members have been active the past several months in an effort to have a larger community presence, according to Auxiliary member Amy Zeller.

“We have been trying to become more active within the community and make the post more family-friendly,” Zeller said. “In October we held our first ever trunk or treat with about 15 cars and a little (more than) 100 children come through. In November we held our banner program downtown to go along with Veterans Day and second annual chili cook-off.”

This month, Zeller said members have teamed up with nursing homes and organizations in the community to make Christmas a little brighter for local veterans and families. Members of the legion, auxiliary and Boy Scout Troop 92 teamed up Dec. 10 to wrap and deliver the gifts.

“Post 52 has been working with Troop 92 and Girl Scout Troop 10427 the past several months to give back to our youth in the community,” she added. “In return both troops have helped out with clean-up projects, the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival in May, helped prepare care packages for men and women from Hartselle who serve in the military and with other projects.”
