Lady Tigers win fifth straight area volleyball championship

HARTSELLE – The Hartselle Lady Tigers won their fifth consecutive area tournament championship with a win over Decatur.

The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Red Raiders 3-0 (25-10, 25-4, 25-17) to secure the championship. Decatur advanced to the finals by defeating Cullman 3-1.

“Winning the area tournament means a lot to me,” Hartselle head coach Lindsey Crompton said. “We are hitting our stride at the right time heading into the playoffs.”

Jadyn Chesser led Hartselle with 16 kills, eight digs, three aces and a block. Kennedy Sheats had six kills, three digs and a block, while Lydia Simmons added five kills, six aces, two digs and a block.

Hartselle and Decatur will play in the North Super Regional in Huntsville at the Von Braun Center this week. The No. 8 Lady Tigers will meet Minor while the Lady Red Raiders, playing in the super-regional for the first time in school history, will face No. 7 Homewood.

The Lady Tigers are playing their best volleyball of the season as they enter the super-regional. They have won 17 of their previous 25 matches since having a 14-14 record Sept. 22.

In action earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers defeated No. 4 Northridge 2-1 and Hale County 2-0.

Chesser finished with 14 kills and 13 digs to lead Hartselle. Simmons had 11 kills and Sheats added six kills and five digs. Katie Gillott added nine kills, while Ashley Holshouser had 15 digs.
