Funeral service for Milton Montgomery, 85, was held June 8 at 3 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Center Cemetery. Mr. Montgomery passed away June 5 at his residence. He was born April 26, 1937, in Morgan County, to Thad Harvey Montgomery and Georgia Cloer “Dood” Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was the owner and operator of Montgomery’s Shop Ezy for many years along with his wife, JoAnn. He also worked for and retired from the Hartselle City School system working at Barkley Bridge Elementary School as a custodian. He was a member of the New Center Baptist church where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers, Bill, Harold, Letrell and Gerry Montgomery. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, JoAnn Johnson Montgomery; son, Barry Montgomery; daughter, Lori Starnes (Keith); brothers, J.T. Montgomery and Jerry Montgomery; grandchildren, Chelsea Montgomery, Carli Montgomery, Makayla Loveday and Bradley Scott; great grandchildren, Bryant Montgomery and Raelynn Montgomery. Pallbearers were Larry Montgomery, Mike Montgomery, Billy Montgomery, Timmy Montgomery, Keith Starnes, Bradley Scott, Kevin Wise and Bobby Loveday. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Adcock, Kenneth Selby, Brian Johnson, Jerry Creel, Jamie Roden, John Anderson and Milford Cobbs.

A graveside funeral service and interment for Eric Preston Wright, 19, was
held June 9 at 3 p.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Bro. Lance Blackburn and Bro. Bill Hall officiating and Peck Funeral Home
directing. Mr. Wright died on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born April 6, 2003, in Morgan County, to Steve Wright and Melanie Brown Wright. Eric was a member of the Westview Church of Christ. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him as a loving son and loving brother. Survivors include parents, Steve and Melanie Brown Wright’ brother, Evan Wright; grandparents, Bobby and Montez Brown and Chester and Jerrilyon Wright. The pallbearers were Jonathan Bragwell, Barry Defoor, Dale Gray, Tron Meadows, David Parr and Keith Wright. 

Brad Jones

A memorial visitation service for Brad Jones, 56, was held on June 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. Mr. Jones died June 4 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1965, in Madison County to James Marion Jones and Geraldine “Jeri” Warren Dillard. He was self-employed in the construction industry, prior to his passing. His father preceded him in death. Survivors include mother, Geraldine “Jeri” Warren Dillard; brother, Scott Jones; sister, Jennifer Ensley.

Funeral services for June Mills Hartsell, 78, was held June 11 at 11 a.m. at Hartselle First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Pope officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  Burial was at Hartselle City cemetery. June passed away June 8 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1944 in Louisville, Miss., to James and Bernice Mills. She loved her grandparents, G.G. and Hilda Bennett of Beatty Switch, Miss., and frequently talked about the time she spent on their farm as a child. She was a registered nurse who received the Florence Nightingale Award from Carraway Methodist Nursing School. She kept her family laughing with her
antics and bought purses in almost all of the 50 states. She enjoyed music,
traveling and never met a stranger.  She was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents and a grandson, Jordan Ward Hartsell. Survivors include husband, Lee Hartsell; children, Jim Hartsell (Jaymaine), Julie Rhodes (Cooper), Jennifer Hartsell, and John Hartsell (Marian); sister, Anne Byrom; grandchildren, Jonathan Hartsell (Jo Lauren), Jacob Hartsell, Joshua Rhodes (Jordan), Jeremiah Rhodes, Sarah Hartsell, Bennett Aulbach, Jenni Cate Rhodes, and Anna Hartsell; great-grandchild: Otis Hartsell. Pallbearers were family members. Donations in her memory can be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Hartselle FUMC.

Funeral service for Judy Hargrove, 86, was held June 11 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Decker officiating and
Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Ms. Hargrove died June 7 at Hospice Family Care. She was born May 20, 1936, in Morgan County to Moffett Hodges Crow and Lillie Julia Hardage Crow. She was employed by Mutual of Omaha Insurance as office and clerical
personnel, prior to her retirement. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Hargrove, two sons-in-law, Roger Kelso and Terry Barley, her parents and her ex-husband, A.D. Hargrove. Survivors include daughters, Carol Johnson and Lynn Kelso; four grandsons, Anthony Lewter (dear friend-Baily), Shawn Lewter (Michelle), Phillip Kelso (Michelle), and Justin Kelso (Lori); great grandchildren, Logan Lewter (girlfriend- Katie), Brancen Lewter, Landon Lewter, Jordan Kelso, Carter Kelso, and Raegan Kelso; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Anthony Lewter, Shawn Lewter, Logan Lewter, Brancen Lewter, Phillip Kelso and Justin Kelso. Honorary pallbearers were Landon Lewter, Jordan Kelso, Carter Kelso and Raegan Kelso.

Cemetery. Mr. Garrett died on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born September 20, 1942, in Morgan County to Calvis Clemons Garrett and Mamie Jewell Helms Garrett. Mr. Garrett was employed as a chemical plant operator for Amoco Chemical Company, prior to his retirement. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Frances Shaneyfelt Garrett, Hartselle; sons, Tony Garrett, Somerville and Butch Johnson, Hartselle; daughter, Regina Hayes, Somerville; brother, Ellis Garrett (Hilda); sister, Ella Sue Robinson (Danny); grandchildren, Madison Blackney (Joshua), Amanda Yarbrough (Jake) and Adam Johnson; two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bobby Atkins, Tom Smartt, Dan Mackey, Roger Hale, Horace Crawly, Billy Jack Shaneyfelt and Josh Blackney.

Kenneth “Kenny” Allen Ballentine of Decatur, passed away peacefully June 7 at Huntsville Hospital surrounded by his family. Kenny was born on Feb 13, 1960 in Hammond, Indiana and was a 1978 graduate of Austin High School. He was a self-employed painter and had a great love for music, comics, his daughter and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Joan Ballentine. Survivors include daughter Brielle Owens (Adam); and brother Tim Ballentine (Becky) He was the best “Pa” to grandchildren Livi Claire and Brady Owens, nieces Nicki Ballentine and Amanda Faulkner along with several great nieces, great nephew and their families. He will truly be forever missed. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. 

James David Wallace

A graveside funeral service and interment for James David Wallace, 81, was held June 12 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.  Mr. Wallace died June 9 at Summerford Nursing Home.  He was born May 4, 1941 in Morgan County to Bluitt Wallace and Hazel (Sims) Wallace. He was employed by Automatic Screw as a machine operator for 36 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed cars and was a firearms enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include sister, Dianne Watson (Stanley), Saint Francisville, La.; nephews, Shannon Rollins (Fran) and Steven Wallace Rollins.

Cemetery. Mrs. Bennett died June 11 at her residence. She was born
September 10, 1953 to William “Bill” Mooneyham and Clo Chaffin Mooneyham. She was a homemaker for her family and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include husband, Wayne Bennett, Arab; son, Grant Bennett (Tara), Athens; daughters, Laina Kirksey (Scott), Arab and Allison Hanners (Kris), Eva; brother, David Mooneyham, Somerville; sisters, Carolyn Henson, Somerville, Betty Ryan, Eva, and Kathy Earwood, Somerville; five grandchildren, Ava Ralph, Cash Kirksey, Paxton Bennett, Lila Hanners and Ridge Hanners.
The pallbearers were Scott Kirksey, Kris Hanners, Paxton Bennett, Cash Kirksey, Grant Bennett and Reggie Ryan. Serving as an honorary pallbearer was Ridge Hanners.

A memorial funeral service for Doyle F. Miller, 80, was held June 16 at 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim McCormick officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Miller died June 10. He was born November 21, 1941, in Morgan County to Grady Ester Miller and Lillian White Miller. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Tunsel Road Baptist Church and was employed by Amoco Chemical/BP as an I&E Technician prior to his retirement. Mr. Miller was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and enjoyed woodworking. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Skeeter McDonald of Rogersville and Mildred Purser of Florence. Survivors include wife Judy Terry Miller, Hartselle; sons, Stacy Miller (Janice), Danville, and Chad Miller (Felecia), Hartselle; sisters, Virginia Ball (Charles), Hartselle and Patricia Lee (Billy), Town Creek; grandchildren, Victoria Ware (Dylan), Logan Miller, and Sarah Miller.
