Last month, members of the Hartselle Police Department put down their razors for a good cause and raised money for a brother in blue who is fighting cancer.

Participants in the month-long fundraiser were Chief Justin Barley, Lt. Alan McDearmond, Sgt. Chip Reynolds, Inv. Tania Burgess, Ofc. Robert Baker, Ofc. Patrick Edmondson, Ofc. Chuck Porter and Jennifer Tetreault. Together they raised $3,425 that will benefit the Jim England family.

Jim England is a special agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, assigned to the Huntsville Resident Office. He is also a former U.S. Marine and Morgan County sheriff’s deputy.

According to a post on the HPD Facebook page, England was diagnosed with brain cancer this summer.

“Jim has undergone surgery relative to this diagnosis and has completed his first round of radiation and chemotherapy. (He) will begin his next rounds of treatment in the next few weeks. Jim and his family have made many sacrifices for our community, as well as our country, and now we have the opportunity to give back to them,” the post reads.

“We are so grateful to everyone who donated,” Chief Justin Barley said. “We know the England’s would appreciate continued prayers as well.”
