Falkville to replace A/C unit for court
Falkville Council discussed the replacement of the central heating and cooling unit for the municipal courtroom at a work session Jan. 27.
Mayor Ken Winkles reported getting a quote of $5,800 for a new unit from Taylor Heating & Cooling in Hartselle and requested authorization to make the purchase.
Council members were in agreement with his request and indicated they would consider
its approval at the next regular council meeting. If approved, funding would be made from the Court Fund.
Other items approved for the next regular meeting’s agenda are listed as follows:
•Consider a renewal contract with the Morgan County Commission to use the Morgan County Jail to house municipal inmates for $31per day, effective April 1, 2020. The new rate represents an $8 per day increase, effective for one year.
•Consider a quote of $7,500 from Jones Bro. Paving to grade and pave a portion of a street east of the traffic light on Highway 31
Training requests were made by Mayor Winkles and two employees.
Jill Walling requested permission to attend an ACPS seminar at Auburn University on April 10, May 8, June 19 and July 31 at a cost of $631.02 for each date.
Lance Stidham asked to attend a Water Operator Class II study course at West Morgan & East Lawrence Water & Sewer System on Feb. 12, Mar. 20 Apr. 20 at a cost of $75 for each date.
Mayor Winkles and Stidham both asked to attend the 2020 Florida/Alabama Joint Water Conference in Panama City, Fla. on May 18-22 at a cost of $1,056.
The Council also agreed to appropriate $1,500 to the Morgan County Schools Foundation and $500 to the Touch-A-Truck event on Apr. 18, a fundraiser sponsored by Parents and Children Together (PACT).
Town Clerk Dawn Estes reported that Falkville collected $3,648.56 from the state’s 10-cent gasoline tax as of Jan. 21, 2020.
