Officers raising money for comrade’s wife during No Shave November

Members of the Hartselle Police Department are putting down their razors for a good cause next month. 20 officers and staff members have officially committed to participate in the annual awareness campaign known as No Shave November that raises funds for the fight against cancer and brings the disease to the forefront of people’s minds.

“This year the officers will be raising money for one of our own officer’s family,” Police Chief Justin Barley said in a post on Facebook. “Officer Brad Freeman’s wife Amanda was recently diagnosed with cancer. Participating officers will not shave for the month of November to bring awareness to Amanda’s condition and to collect money for the Freeman family.”

Barley continued, saying this year is going to be different from years past. “We’ve tried several times to get the ladies on board…  no avail,” he said. “But this year, we’ve got some contestants. Although we couldn’t talk them into not shaving, they did agree to dye a strip of their hair pink to be able to join the competition.”

Members and staff from the Hartselle Police Department who are participating are: Robert Baker, Justin Barley, Lynn Dean, Randy Denney, Robert Finn, Ripley Fowler, Richard Herrera, Luke Hogan, James Holladay, Micah Host, Michael Hudson, Randall Lott, Alan McDearmond, Daniel Parker, Chip Reynolds, Tania Burgess, Linda Fox, Deborah Harton, Lesley Sheffield and Margaret Stinson.

Barley said to be eligible for the competition, participants must agree to raise a minimum of $50. The public can get involved by sponsoring a participant and donations can be dropped off at the police department on Chestnut Street or arranged with the officer.
