The Hartselle Tigers softball team took a Spring Break trip to Gulf Shores to compete with over 40 other teams in the Gulf Coast Classic II softball tournament. The trip was highlighted by a Jenna Smith perfect game against Magnet Cove.

Hartselle 10 Palestine-Wheatley (AR) 1

Kalli Cartee picked up two hits and three RBI to lead the Tigers as they opened play with an easy 10-1 victory over Palestine-Wheatley (AR).

Hartselle took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI hits from Mackenzie Jackson, Emily Cowart and Hannah Grace Bevis.

They continued to pile up the runs with four in the second and two in the third before Palestine-Wheatley scored in the top of the fourth to make it 10-1.

Lilyanna Cartee scored three runs while every Tiger starter collected at least one hit.

Morgyn Sparkman picked up the win as she pitched four innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three.

Hartselle 2 Lawrence County (TN) 0

Jenna Smith pitched a complete game two-hitter to defeat Lawrence County of Tennessee in the Tigers’ second game of the tournament. She struck out four Wildcat batters.

Kylie Winton hit a home run and scored the two Tiger runs to lead the Hartselle attack. K. Cartee picked up 2 hits for the Tigers.

Anderson County (TN) 5 Hartselle 4

Caroline Hill doubled and drove in two runs in the first inning as the Tigers fell 5-4 to the Lady Mavericks of Anderson County from Tennessee.

1. Cartee had a double, single and a run scored while Emily Cowart picked up a hit and an RBI for Hartselle.

Sparkman started the game and picked up the loss. She went two innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out one. Jenna Smith threw two innings in relief allowing no runs or hits while striking out three.

Hartselle 15 Magnet Cove 0

Jenna Smith got her second start of the tournament and pitched a perfect game striking out four as the Tigers defeated Magnet Cove 15-0.

The Tigers sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning to blow open the game..

Kelsey Crow and Ashlyn Ward both picked up three hits and scored two runs to lead the Hartselle offense. L. Cartee, Victoria McClure, Amber Crittenden, Chaney Dutton, and Meg Wilbanks each had two RBI.

Single Elimination Bracket

The Tigers were seeded ninth in the single elimination bracket that started play on Wednesday morning. They were scheduled to meet the winner of Nashville Christian and Magnet Cove, a game won by Nashville Christian 7-1.

Hartselle 7 Nashville Christian 0

Jada Henderson led a group of five players who combined for ten hits in the Tigers’ 7-0 victory over the Lady Eagles of Nashville Christian.

Henderson had a home run and a single, two RBI and scored two runs to lead the attack. Bevis, Crittenden, and Jackson all had RBI for Hartselle.

The Tigers scored two in the second, one in the third and finished off the Lady Eagles with four runs in the fifth to complete the 7-0 score.

Sparkman got the start and pitched a complete game, allowing zero runs and three hits while striking out six.

Goodpasture 8 Hartselle 7

In the second round, Hartselle met Goodpasture Christian out of Madison, TN.  The Tigers were unable to hold on to a late-inning lead as they lost 8-7.

Hartselle scored four runs in the third inning on RBI by K. Cartee, Jackson, and Cowart.

The Tigers 4-2 mark in the Gulf Coast Classic II improves their season record to 13-5.
