This Week in Hartselle Softball

The Hartselle Lady Tigers, the defending 6A State Champions, kicked off the season with five games in five days.

The week started off with games against 7A Sparkman and Bob Jones and ended with three games in the Spain Park Tournament.

After losing their first two games the Lady Tigers closed the week by winning three games in Hoover.

Sparkman 13 Hartselle 11

Hartselle fell to the Lady Senators in a high scoring affair 13-11.

The Tigers jumped on the board in the top of the first scoring two runs. Sparkman took the lead with four in the bottom of the first.

Hartselle came back in the top of the fifth to score five runs including two on an Emily Cowart homerun. Sparkman plated one in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-5.

The Sparkman pitching staff shut down the Hartselle batters over the next three innings while the Lady Senators’ offense put six runs on the board giving the home team an 11-7 lead going to the sixth inning.

Hartselle plated three runs in the top of the sixth but saw the Lady Senators score two more in the bottom of the inning to make the score 13-10.

The Lady Tigers plated a run in the seventh to make the final score 13-11.

Hartselle was led by Kalli Cartee who went 5-5 with three runs scored and three RBI while Cowart added two hits including a home run and two RBI.

Morgyn Sparkman got the start and went two innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and allowed two home runs. Jenna Smith took the loss as she pitched the final four innings, giving up six runs on nine hits while striking out one.

Bob Jones 3 Hartselle 0

The Lady Tigers offense was shut down by Bob Jones’ Emma Rolfe who allowed five hits and no runs in seven innings.

Hartselle had some chances as they got a runner in scoring position in four different innings but couldn’t advance past second until the bottom of the sixth as they stranded runners at second and third.

The Lady Tigers offense was led by Kylie Winton who picked up two hits in three at-bats.

Morgyn Sparkman took the loss as she went five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out four. Jenna Smith pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.

Hartselle 3 Chelsea 1

Hartselle opened play in the Spain Park Tournament with Chelsea.

The Lady Tigers got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first as Kylie Winton scored on a Kalli Cartee single to centerfield.

Chelsea tied the game at one with a run in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Tigers plated two runs to give them the 3-1 victory as time expired.

Hartselle was led by Kalli Cartee who had three hits and two RBI while Jada Henderson added two hits and run scored. The third Lady Tiger RBI belonged to Lillyanna Cartee.

Morgyn Sparkman pitched four innings to pick up the win. She gave up one run on three hits and struck out one.

Hartselle 9 Dothan 2

In the second game of the tournament, the Lady Tigers faced off with the Dothan Lady Tigers.

Dothan got on the board with two runs in the top of the first. Hartselle battled back in the bottom of the inning as they scored six runs to take the lead.

Hartselle added to their lead with a McKenzie Jackson two-run homer in the bottom of the second and an Emily Cowart homerun in the bottom of the fourth to give them the 9-2 victory.

Hartselle was led by Cowart who had two hits, a run, and three RBI while Jackson added a hit, two runs, and three RBI. Kalli Cartee was held without a hit but scored two runs.

Jenna Smith pitched four innings to pick up the win. She allowed 2 runs on four hits while striking out four.

Hartselle 5 Sumiton Christian 3

In the final game of the tournament, Hartselle met up with the Sumiton Christian Lady Eagles.

The Lady Tigers got on the board by plating two in the bottom of the first on RBIs by Kalli Cartee and Emily Cowart.

They added an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth as Caroline Hill scored when Hannah Grace Bevis reached base on a Sumiton Christian error.

The Lady Eagles tied the game at three with back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth.

The Lady Tigers picked up the victory when Cowart hit a walk-off two-run home run, her third of the season, in the bottom of the seventh to give Hartselle the 5-3 victory.

The Lady Tigers were led by Cowart’s home run and three RBI and Cartee’s two hits and RBI.

Morgyn Sparkman got the start and went three innings, giving up no runs on two hits and struck out one. Jenna Smith picked up the win as she pitched the final three innings, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out three.
