Massey residents, McKendree United Methodist Church members and Celebrate Recovery participants recently enjoyed a chili supper in the fellowship hall. Following the supper, members went to the Bridge Center for the discussion of the Eight Moral Principles shown on the screen. The one-year chip was presented to Carolyn Besnyl as a memorial to her daughter, Joyce O’Neal, who passed away one year ago. Joyce attended Celebrate Recovery for alcohol addiction, and Carolyn told the group how much it had meant to Joyce and how it helped her.

Terri Sanford directed the children’s activities.

The family of the late William Minter Anders and Doris Anders Herring of Massey met for the Thanksgiving holidays in Birmingham. Those attending were Ferrell and Pauline Anders of Fairhope; Will and Robin Anders and Charlie and Liddy of Greensboro, North Carolina; Bryan and Laura Lee and Anders and William of Lafayette, Louisiana; Theron and B.B. Anders of Huntsville; Kelilah Anders and Larysse Tavares of Engle Wood, Colorado; Larry and Nancy Anders of Sheffield; Stephanie Anders and Carlos Salazar of New Orleans, Louisiana; Jennifer Anders of Hoover; and Corey Anders of Cahaba Heights.

Becky Davis of the Crossroads community gave the program at the Senior Citizens Day at Corinth West Baptist Church. Nov. 21, 33 area residents gathered in the fellowship hall for the event. Becky used I Thessalonians 5:18 for her scripture: “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” She said some think it’s easy to be a Christian and quoted from Barbara Johnson’s book: “All you have to do is accept the unacceptable, do without the indispensable, tolerate the intolerable and smile through it all.”

Becky spoke on her reasons to be thankful this season and her memories of Corinth Baptist. Her father, the Rev. Ferrell Blackwood, was pastor there when the church was built. Some of those early members were at Senior Day.

Hilton Kelly presided due to GayNell Wilhite’s illness. GayNell is in Cullman Regional Medical Center and will be getting a pace maker.

Karen Powell received a birthday cake covered in lighted candles. She celebrated her sixth birthday Nov. 30.

David Shedd and Kim Shedd carried meals to the shut-ins. Hilton asked for the blessing of the food, and everyone enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal. Afterward, Kim Shedd called four games of bingo.

The Christmas program lunch and bingo will be Dec. 19 at 11 a.m.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week for Michael Walker as well as John Wesley Owens, who both celebrated their birthdays Nov. 30. Special belated happy birthday wishes also go out this week for Bryant Moon, who celebrated his birthday Nov. 10.

John Baker of the Saddle Back Church was the video speaker for the Celebrate Recovery program Nov. 10.

McKendree United Methodist Church hosted the Massey community supper of sloppy joes, chips, pickles, desserts and drinks. The McKendree group also conducted the music program and discussion groups.

Randy Besnyl and Carolyn Besnyl attended the monthly meeting of the Decatur Music Club Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. They were entertained by the Decatur Youth Symphony at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week for the family of Mike Windsor, the family of Billy Kirby, the family of Barry Halford and the family of Edith Lott.

Special get well wishes go out this week for Scott Parker, Paul Byrd, GayNell Wilhite and also Sue Williams.

The annual Thanksgiving meal for Fairview – The Grace Place was held Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The church hostesses and hospitality people were in charge of the event. A potluck meal was enjoyed by those attending. Brother Milan Dekich conducted the program.
