Powell signs with Pensacola State College

Senior Bailey Powell signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Pensacola State College last Thur., Feb 4 at Hartselle High School. Powell, an outside hitter for the Hartselle Lady Tigers Volleyball team and also plays on the HHS softball team.
Powell was a three-year starter on the HHS Volleyball team, helping the teams go to state all three years. The teams made it to the Final 4 two of the years she played. She was all tournament all state for 6A last year.
Here three year career statistics included 1167 kills, 871 digs, 151 blocks, 112 aces and 22 assists.
Gadsden State Community College also recruited Powell, but she chose Pensacola. She also received offers to play softball, but chose volleyball instead.
“She will be hard to replace. Bailey is a vocal leader on and off the court.” Tanya Lybarger, HHS Volleyball coach said during the signing ceremony last week.
When asked why she chose Pensacola Powell responded, “ I was able to practice with the team and they made me fell welcome and a part of the team.” The coach took her around the campus and to the beach and all involved with Pensacola made her feel welcome.
Powell also says she loves volleyball. “Coach Lybarger made me love the sport” Powell also said.
She will miss Hartselle, the coaches and her team. She says her teammates are her sisters.
Powell is the daughter of Will and Nikki Powell. Both are proud of their daughter and the season she had this year. “We have another reason to go to the beach now” Nikki Powell said also. Powell also has one brother, Stone Powell.
Powell’s parents served refreshments and invited family, friends, teammates and fellow classmates to the event last week.
