Morgan County kicks off new school year

The Morgan County Board of Education kicked of the 2015 – 2016 school year with their annual institute. The institute was held again this year at Somerville Baptist Church in Somerville on Tues., Aug. 11.

The sanctuary of the church was filled with teachers in the system and the choir loft with special visitors, members of the board of education and principals and assistant principals from the county schools as well as other officials in the school system.

Morgan County School Board member and board vice chairman, Paul Holmes welcomed those in attendance to the institute. He filled in for board chair Billy Rhodes who could not be present. Shane Lewis, senior pastor of Somerville Baptist church offered the prayer and words of inspiration for the new school year.

The presentation of the colors was made by the Brewer High School, JROTC Color Guard.

Bill Hopkins Jr. Superintendent recognized the guests present at the institute.

Each school was also recognized as well as the Teachers of the Year:

Cynthia Weaver of Brewer High School as Secondary Teacher of the Year and Suzanne Blackman of Danville – Neel Elementary as Elementary Teacher of the Year.

The Priceville Elementary School Choir presented “Seasons of Love” for those in attendance.

Morgan County welcomed back students Wed., Aug. 12.
