Dear Editor:

Yesterday the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of same-sex marriage. Even though this was expected by many pundits, it is still a bit jarring for those who believe in the biblical definition of marriage. Many are wondering what this means for the church.

While this will not be an exhaustive list and many others will no doubt write better thoughts than myself, here are a few things we need to be thinking about in light of this new ruling.

1: The church will always be here. Jesus promised this in Matthew 16:18. While there will be difficult times ahead, we should be comforted to know that the church always thrives in the midst of turmoil and persecution. The church seems to grow during these times.

2: As the people of God, we need to know and understand the word of God now more than ever. Many of my friends get their information off of Facebook or blog posts written by people who do not know the original languages and how it all fits together. We must be people of the word. Our faith is objective (based on the truth of his word) and not subjective (based on feelings), so Christians must know, memorize, and hide God’s word in our hearts.

3: Understand the arguments that will be made in the Christian church. There will be a new push for churches to openly accept this lifestyle. There are many liberal Christians who are already pushing this idea. In order to understand these arguments, I suggest a few resources: A Queer Thing Happened to America by Michael Brown; Same Sex Controversy by James White; and The Gay Gospel by Joe Dallas. These men have done extensive research and understand the original languages. These are great resources to have in your library. I suggest you get these quickly.
