Priceville receives $2,500 from Miss Albany 7k

The town council of Priceville met Monday night for a regularly scheduled council meeting. In attendance were Mayor Melvin Duran, Mayor Pro-Tem Tommy Perry, Councilman Jerry Welch and Councilman Donald Livingston.

Duran said a public hearing needed to be set for an alcohol license request from the new Dollar General store.

The council also accepted a $2,500 donation from the Jeremy Holmes family from proceeds made during the Miss Albany’s Piggy Tail Princess 7k run held Feb. 28. The run was held in honor of Albany Holmes, a 3-year-old girl from Priceville with cerebral palsy. The donation will be used to make the town’s park more handicapped accessible.

Duran also thanked the police department for all they do for the town, and especially for the job they did during the recent winter weather.

In other action:

*Approved $500sponsorship for the PCRA 5k run on May 30.

*Approved $656.40 for Gulf States Distributers for Taser cartridges for officer rectification.

* Approved $5,600 to Gulf States Distribution for training ammunition and duty ammunition for the police department.

* Approved MPO resolution 2015-04.

*Approved paying $4,240.75 to Univar Corporation for mosquito spraying.

*Approved street paving in the amount of $58,915 for Reed Contracting Services.

*Approved paying $2,275to contract for the treating of the ball fields to N2Grass.

* Introduced and noted as the first reading of an ordinance amending 1977-02 forbidding the accumulation of rubbish constituting health hazards or causing an obnoxious odor.
