Parker reaches 1,000 career points at PHS

McKenzie Parker has been one of the top scorers in Morgan County this season.

After losing a lot of experience from a year ago, Parker has picked up the slack by averaging 16.7 points per game, setting career highs several times this year and has helped lead Priceville this season to an undefeated record in area play.

Not only that, she also recently reached the 1,000-point milestone.

“I just knew that I had to step it up to help my team this year,” Parker said. “I’ve had to drive the ball in the lane a little more than I did last year. I just want to do what I need to do to help us win games.”

Parker reached that milestone during a loss to county rival Danville on Dec. 16. Her sister, Peyton, who is playing a Faulkner, was home and got to see McKenzie get to that mark.

“It was pretty cool to get to 1,000 points in my career, but I wish that we would have won the game,” Parker said. “It was great that she was here to see that.”
Parker, the daughter of Cindy and William Parker, has played on the varsity squad for four years. She also plays softball in the spring.

Lady Bulldogs coach Terrie Nelson said Parker has shown great leadership this season.

“She’s had to take on a lot more responsibility this year and she’s done great,” Nelson said. “She’s worked hard and deserved to get to 1,000 points in her career. Not many girls have been able to do that here in Priceville.”

The Lady Bulldogs will continue their season Friday night at Westminster Academy.
