Gracie Yates Penn celebrates 90th birthday

Congratulations go out this week to Gracie Yates Penn of the Round Top Community and Summerford Nursing Home who celebrated her 90th birthday Sat., Dec. 20.

Gracie was honored with a birthday party Sat., Dec. 13. Gracie’s family hosted the party in the nursing home dining hall from 2 to 4 p.m. I hope that you have many more happy birthdays, Gracie.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Katelyn Self on Dec. 22, and Trevor Sherrill on Dec. 23.

Happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Paul Martin and Buddy Lacy, both on Dec. 25, Geranda McAbee on Dec. 27 and Virginia Prater, Jordan Morgan and Jacob Palmer, all on Dec. 28.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church will host a Christmas Eve service today, Wed., Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. The title of the program will be Candlelight, Carols and Communion. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Three groups of Emmanuel Mennonite Church singers met at the church in Massey on Sun., Dec. 14, at 3:30 p.m. Members went out in the communities Christmas caroling for shut-ins and other elderly residents.

The Danville-Iron Man Road Bunko Club held its Christmas game and lunch meeting on Tues., Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. They chose the Freight House in Hartselle for their party and meal. Twelve members enjoyed Bunko and the food.

McKendree United Methodist Church held its “White Christmas” program and candlelight service on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 6:45 p.m. Following the singing of Christmas carols and the service, finger foods, hot chocolate, coffee and drinks were served in the fellowship hall.

Tom and Tina Summerford were in charge of the program. Beth Shelton was in charge of the refreshments.

Special congratulations go out this week to Delbert Vest on the birth of his newest great-grandson, Gabriel Luke Maxwell. Gabriel was born on Nov. 26. His proud parents are Gabe and Jill Vest Maxwell.

Gabriel weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and he was 21 inches long. His proud grandparents are Ray and Laura Vest.

Round Top Community Church and Sunday school classes enjoyed their annual Christmas caroling on Sun., Dec. 14. The members met at 3 p.m. and groups sang for shut-ins and others in the area. Everyone returned to the Family Life Center for their party where finger foods, soft drinks and coffee were served.

On Christmas Eve, today, Wed., Dec. 24, the Cowboy-No Fences Church will meet for a worship service at 7 p.m. Traditionally, they have had a bonfire on Christmas Eve. Members and visitors will enjoy carols and fellowship after the program.

The Falkville Public Library Board, librarian and library aide and guests had their Christmas meeting and lunch on Sat., Dec. 13, at 11:30 a.m. Those enjoying the festivities and meal at Las Vias restaurant in Hartselle were Jenny Asherbranner, Julie Asherbranner, Pam MacDonald, Nathan and Emily MacDonald, all of Mt. Nebo community, Jane Hill and Rhona Summerford of Falkville, Marie Sivley of Mt. Zion community and Kay Farrer of Hartselle.
