Dear Editor,

How gratifying it is to know that so many people have accepted the ALS ice-bucket challenge and are becoming more aware of this dreaded disease. It is no longer a disease of the 1930’s but a real and present disastrous affliction of 2014!

ALS has no boundaries to hold it back. It can strike men or women of any age, although the average time is mid-life. It seems to prefer veterans over any other one group, but nobody is exempt.

Go to ALS.com to check the symptoms. If you exhibit any of these be sure to ask your doctor if ALS is a possible diagnosis. We have to be proactive in our health care. Unfortunately there is no treatment or cure, but there will be. It’s coming. In the meantime we pray and hope and wait.
