Darrell Maddox is chairman of the event and sings, plays piano and banjo. Others play mandolin, guitar, fiddle and bass fiddle on some of the songs. Palmer Osborn plays spoons and mandolin.

There are two pianos being played with each number and approximately 40 convention southern gospel song leaders there. The singing is also a memorial for Doyle Walker who served as chairman for many years before he passed away in 1980.

Doyle and Stella’s family led some of his favorite songs in a special part of the afternoon singing. After the closing song, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, Bud Woods serves lemonade, soft drinks and water with snacks at the front porch of the church from the back of his pickup truck.

If you enjoy gospel music and great food, make plans to go to Corinth West Methodist Church on Aug. 24. It is located on County Road 1101, also known as “the Corn Road” five miles west of Battleground and Hwy 157.
