Somerville Public Library served as host for a visit by Huntsville Hospital’s Mobile Medical Unit on Saturday, offering free blood pressure checks for senior citizens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Government’s Agency on Aging also participated. Cissy Pearson, aging coordinator, screened seniors to ensure they were familiar with NARCOG’s benefits and services.

“We were pleased to share our facility with the mobile medical unit and NARCOG,” said Peggy Griffith, library board member. “This is just one of the many ways we serve the needs of our community.”

“The mobile medical unit is made available to seven North Alabama hospitals operating under the umbrella of Huntsville Hospital. It is equipped to provide screens for blood pressure and glucose in the blood and is funded by the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

“Our schedule takes us to locations in towns and communities within a 50 to 75 mile radius of Huntsville,” said driver Peter Miller. “The unit is in operation seven day a week.”
