Hartselle city officials got a first hand look at the Hartselle Fire Department’s new public safety center on the campus of Hartselle Junior High School.

Shelton said they spent time constructing new walls, cleaning and painting the former classroom that housed the health and medical professions classroom before Hartselle High School moved to its new campus.

His vision for the new facility is to provide a state of the art classroom training facility and to provide an operations center for all city departments to coordinate response during emergencies.

“It can be a place where department heads can come together in an emergency situation and coordinate efforts in one place,” Shelton said. “In addition to that, we can host our required training classes here in the facility. It would also be open to any other city department or the school system to use.”

The facility features a large classroom that could seat as many as 20 to 30 people with two TV screens and a projector. There is also a conference room for 10 people with a computer and TV screen.

It also features an office, restrooms, shower and break room.

“Our personnel spent a lot of time getting this facility ready,” Shelton said. “They did a great job and all of the renovations were paid through donations and contributions to the fire department. We didn’t have to ask for anything from the general fund.

“We’d like to thank (School Superintendent) Dr. (Vic) Wilson and the school board for allowing us to use this facility,” Shelton said. “We hope it is something that everyone in our city can benefit from.”
