Falkville sets school record against Shades Mountain

HOOVER – Falkville cruised to victory 69-0 against the Shades Mountain Christian Eagles Friday at Finley Memorial Stadium on the campus of the old W.A. Berry Middle School.

The Devils set a new school record with points scored in a game and margin of victory in a game.

It took nearly eight minutes for Falkville to get on the board, but the brakes never came on after, as the Devils scored four times in the opening half and six times in the second half.

Hunter Woodall scored on a six-yard run, capping a 12-play drive. Ryan Sullivan’s PAT made it 7-0 with 4:32 to go in the first quarter.

As the clock dwindled down, Sullivan scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper with 52 seconds to play in the opening quarter and followed with the extra point.

Sullivan scored again on a 13-yard keeper midway through the second quarter, capping a six-play drive.

Falkville’s defense was a vital component of the game’s success. Austin Kritner reutnred an interception 41 yards for a touchdown 1:37 to play in the first half. The Devils led 27-0 at halftime.

A pass was lofted into the end zone to a SMCS wide-out. It was swatted away by Tyler Woodall, created a turnover on downs around the eight minute mark of the third quarter.

FHS added to its lead on a 54-yard touchdown pass play from Sullivan to Kriter.

Logan Vinson picked off the opening pass of the Eagles’ next drive. The Blue Devils scored on the next play, as Sullivan connected with Vinson on 23-pass play and widened the lead to 41-0.

Hunter Woodall juked and jived on an impressive 76-yard carry for a touchdown in the opening play of their next offensive drive with 1:51 to play in the third.

The Devils would set themselves up to score once more before the fourth quarter with a 78-yard carry by Hunter Woodall. He later walked the ball into the end zone on a four-yard carry with 11:32 on the clock in final period.

Six minutes later, following back-to-back completions by Aaron Estes, Devin Reed would score on a three-yard carry.

Reed added another score, this time on a 31-yard run for the final score.

Hunter Woodall finished the night with 16 carries for 233 yards. Sullivan was 12 of 18 for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Estes was 2 of 2 for 15 yards. Vinson managed three receptions for 77 yards. Zach Garrison led in tackles with five, two for a loss.

Head Coach Joel Schrenk said he was excited about a consecutive shutout by the defense and the many offensive tools they have and will continue to utilize them in their upcoming games.

Falkville will host Appalachian at 7 p.m. on Friday.
