Burl Vest Stadium wasn’t Mustang friendly during Falkville’s home opener, as the Blue Devils silenced Southeastern 49-0 to open the regular season.
FHS exploded for 36 first-quarter points to take control early.
Tanner Evans blocked a Southeastern punt, to set up the first Blue Devil score. Four plays later, Austin Kritner scrambled into the end zone on a nine-yard carry.
On another four-play drive, Devin Reed followed his blockers into the end-zone on a six-yard touchdown.
Less than a minute later, Lucas Johnson’s bit hit forced a Mustang fumble and Cade Wilemon secured the recovery. Kritner wasn’t finished putting points on the board, diving into the end-zone from four yards out.
Daniel Lockhart forced another fumble. He took it a step further by scooping it up and returning it to the nine. Hunter Woodall took the ball in for a touchdown on the first play of the drive and adding six points on the board for Falkville. Ryan Sullivan’s extra point was true, as Falkville added to its scoring margin 28-0 with 43 seconds in the first quarter.
Falkville took advantage of back-to-back bad Southeastern snaps, and Zach Garrison added pressure to the Mustang Quarterback, eventually securing the ball back in the hands of the good guys in blue.
Sullivan walked the ball into the end-zone on a three-yard quarterback keeper. A bad snap by FHS forced a quick decision by Garth Enochs to pick the fumbled ball up and carry it into the end-zone, extending the lead to 36-0 as the quarter came to an end.
Capping 11-play drive, Kritner added a one-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 42-0 at halftime.
Sullivan scored from four yards out in the third quarter to top off the Blue Devil’s first victory of 2013.
Falkville will travel to Shades Mountain Christian next Friday with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
