Danville High School welcomes new principal

Danville High School, students, faculty, staff, parents and community members welcome their new principal, Pat Smith. Pat taught at Danville previously and served as the principal at Falkville Elementary School for four years.

Danville High School varsity football players had a pre-season game with Clements of Limestone County Fri., Aug. 23, at Danville. The team had a recent fundraiser, selling discount gold cards. The players and coaches appreciate everyone’s support.

Johnson Chapel United Methodist Women sponsored a project, “Serving the Needy” at C.C.C. in Decatur, providing some food each time they are there. On Thurs., Aug. 15, Pastor Forrest Long and 12 members, served a meal there and the women baked cakes for dessert.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and prayers this week for the following soldiers and their families: Justen Terry – Navy, Dakota McClung-South Korea, Jeff Hartsfield-Afghan-istan, Brandon Jones and Aaron Money-Afghan-istan, Derek Jones-Marines, Jeremy White-Virginia, Jack C. Herbert and Josh Spinks-South Korea, Seth Fagan-Marines, Anthony Thom-as, Matthew Young, Lee Thompson and Brad Wallace. God bless all of our soldiers and their families.

Descendants of Rich-mond and Lavinia Holladay of Penn’s and Friendship communities, held their annual family reunion Sat., Aug. 10,, at Massey Fire Station. Family members shared memorabilia, photos and stories. They also enjoyed a delicious meal. Essie Crowe Holladay will be celebrating her 100th birthday in the fall.

On Wed., Aug. 21, Ona Holladay. a resident oft Summerford Nursing Home, was 98 years young. Plans were made for next year’s reunion.

Our thoughts and prayers go out this week to Brenda Wise who had surgery at the Women and Children’s Center in Huntsville Fri., Aug. 23. She is the manager of Bella Vintage Antique Mall in Hartselle. Vendors from many areas have antiques there and along with friends and patrons wish her a complete recovery.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week for the family of Jean Lawrence, who passed away on Sun., Aug. 18. She was a resident of Columbia Cottage Assisted Living in Hartselle for several years. She was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and sang in their choir and was active in their United Methodist Women’s group. Jean’s funeral was Tues., Aug. 20., at Peck’s Chapel at 4 p.m.

Falkville United Methodist Church hosted a lunch on Sun., Aug.18, for the Falkville High School football team, their parents, the coaches and their families. The lunch was held after the morning worship service, which was led by Brother John Russell. He spoke on Isaiah 40-23-31, “Those Who Wait on the Lord.” Twenty-five varsity and junior varsit players and four coaches were honored. Falkville United Methodist Church resum-ed their youth night on Wed., Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. and Bible study at 6:30 p.m. All area youth and adults are welcome.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Trent Reynolds on Aug. 26 and Lexi Mears on Aug. 27. Happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Andrew Terry on Aug. 28, Jimmy Dobbins and Sharon Jones on Aug. 29, and Maria LaFavor and Gabriel Norton on Aug. 31.

Mt. Nebo Baptist Church of Massey is planning an Old Fashion Day for Sun., Sept. 29. Members and guests can wear costumes and there will be Old Timey Games and activities. After the morning worship service, there will be dinner on the ground. The chairperson for the social committee is Joy Kilgore and the Pastor is Brother Greg Compton.
