Heading into his second year as head coach, Strunk expressed optimism about the Bulldogs future.

“We had 67 players out for spring drills,” he pointed out. “That’s a good number, more than we had last year. They worked hard and got a lot accomplished but we’re still not where we want to be.

“Playing with discipline was something we struggled with a year ago. We need to improve in that area and still be aggressive on both sides of the ball.

“The spring game helped us decide who the starters are going to be,” he said. “We played the first teams the first two quarters, let our reserves play the third quarter and mixed them up after that.

“We have two players who will be Division 1 prospects next year,” he added. “They’re Blades and Nick Bell, both of whom played at receiver positions as juniors.”

The Bulldogs will participate in a summer training program with emphasis on weight lifting and conditioning drills. The program will get under way June 4 with Monday and Thursday sessions, from 7 to 9 a.m.
