New pool on schedule
Workers already complete walls, on pace for Memorial Day deadline
Hartselle’s new city pool is seeing a lot of progress.
About six weeks into the project, Woodward Construction has already completed the excavation, poured the walls of the pool, constructed the exterior of most of the aquatics center’s buildings and is about ready to put roofing on the buildings, possibly as early as this week.
“We’re staying right on schedule,” said Mayor Dwight Tankersley. “Even though we’ve had a lot of rain, they’ve worked right through it – day and night. We should be on schedule to open by Memorial Day.”
Woodward Construction was awarded the $2.8 million project on Jan. 3 and began work immediately.
The new pool features 25-meter competition lanes with a diving well on one end and is connected to the play pool area, which also has a zero-entry pool along with several “splash pad” amenities.
It also features a lazy river and large pool deck with a much larger number of deck lounge chairs.
In addition to the pool, the project also includes installing new locker rooms, restrooms and concession stand area.
Last week, the city finalized its $3.55 million bond for the pool. Tankersley told the council that the 3.65 percent interest rate is a much better rate than what they anticipated.
