Priceville takes care of Good Hope

No. 3 Priceville (26-2) took care of business in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 13 tournament by defeating Good Hope 63-43.

“We came out a little flat, but we had a big second quarter that kind of pushed the game out (of reach),” said Bulldog coach Darrell Haynes. “We had a good balanced attack in the second quarter and kept it going until the end.”

The Bulldogs will now face Fairview, which defeated East Lawrence 57-45 in the other area semifinal game.

The big three for the Bulldogs turned in another outstanding performance led by John Hawkins with 20 points. Matt Teague had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Michael Varner had 12 points. Haynes said Varner had at least 10 rebounds, as his official stats weren’t available after the game.

They combined for 46 points, three more than their opponents.

Chance Ellsworth and Hayden Prentice added 7 points each followed by Tyler Hinkle with 4 and Harold Blades with 3.

After leading only 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, Priceville outscored the Raiders 19-5 in the second quarter and 20-12 in the third quarter to take a commanding 52-29 lead.
