HMC timeline
• Opened on 1948 under the ownership of the Lavender family
• Expanded in 1953 with the addition of a new wing, providing space for two more patient rooms and another doctor’s office
• Purchased by Orval Sparkman in 1962
• Launched a $2.5 million expansion in 1967, including a three-story addition and a doctor’s clinic
• National Healthcare purchased the hospital from Hospital Corporation of America in 1976
• Community Healthcare bought the hospital from National Healthcare in 1995
• Capella Corporation purchased the hospital in 2006.
• HMC received Capella’s top awards for inpatient and outpatient services for the third year in a row in 2011.
• Capella Corp. announced on Jan. 9, 2012, it would close the hospital effective Jan. 31, 2012.
