Lady Tigers win 9 of 10 in busy week

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won nine of the 10 games they played during the past week, improving their record to 33-16 overall and 5-0 in area competition.

They defeated Austin 25-19, 26-28, 15-11 and East Lawrence 25-10, 25-6 on Monday.

Kaylee Shelton moved to the top in team stats by recording 21 kills. She also had four aces, two blocks and a dig. Olivia Golden followed with 15 kills, 12 digs and an assist. Katelyn Hill recorded 14 kills, 15 digs, an assist and a block.

Other Hartselle scorers were: Savanne Howard with 51 assists, three kills, five digs, a pair of aces and a block, Elizabeth Russell scored 16 digs, two assists and four aces, Taylor Lybarger had four kills, two assists, two blocks and an ace, Haley Jared added five kills, two assists, a dig and a pair of blocks, Sarah Ellen Battles had nine digs, and three aces and Tori Miller had five digs.

“I think they’re growing and I hope they peak at the right time, said Hartselle head coach Tanya Lybarger.

The team will play Cullman on Thursday in its final area game and will compete in the Spain Park Tournament on Saturday.

Hartselle wins 4 of 5 in Danville Tourney

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won four of five games and improved their record to 31-16, 5-0 in the Danville Circle of Champions Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

Hartselle went undefeated in pool play, defeating Albertville 25-10, 25-11 and Muscle Shoals 25-13, 25-10. The lady Tigers also won their first two tournament games, 29-27, 25-16 over Walker and 23-25, 25-18, 15-9 over Boaz before losing in the semifinals to Bayside Academy 8-25,20-25.

Golden led Hartselle in scoring with 49 kills, 45 digs and a block. Hill followed with 38 kills, 20 digs, five assists and five blocks. Other scorers were: Howard, 120 assists, 15 digs, six aces and five blocks; Jared, 26 kills, three digs, two assists and six blocks; Shelton, 22 kills, four digs and seven blocks; Lybarger, 15 kills, 32 digs, two assists, six aces and a block; Battles, 16 digs, two assists and an ace; Russell, 24 digs and two aces; Battles, 16 digs, two assists and an ace; and Miller, one kill and two digs.

Lady Tigers remain unbeaten in area play

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers remained unbeaten against area opponents and boosted their season record to 27-15, 5-0 with a win over Brewer’s Lady Patriots, 25-10, 25-22, 25-18, on Sept. 29.

The win enabled the Lady Tigers to clinch first place in their area even though they still have a game left against Cullman. All three of their area opponents have lost at least two area games.

Hill and Golden each scored 10 kills to lead the Lady Tigers in that category. Hill also had 16 digs, five blocks and an assist and Golden had 10 digs, two aces and two blocks.

Stats for other Hartselle players were: Howard, 25 assists, seven digs, three blocks and an ace; Lybarger, four kills, 13 digs, three blocks and an ace; Shelton, seven kills and a block; Russell, six digs, an assist and an ace; Russell, six digs, an ace and an assist; Jared, two digs, two blocks and a kill; Battles, nine digs; and Miller, two aces.

Hartselle defeats West Point, Lawrence County

The Lady Tigers posted wins over area foe West Point and Lawrence County on Tuesday.

They blasted West Point 25-9, 25-15, 25-4 and defeated LCHS 25-16, 25-16.

Golden led the Lady Tigers in kills with 20. She also had seven digs and an ace. Hill logged 15 kills and had six digs, an ace and six blocks. Howard was credited with 44 assists and had a kill, two digs, two aces and six blocks.

Shelton was credited with 15 kills and had four bocks and a dig. Lybarger had eight kills, 12 digs and an ace and a block.

Jared scored five kills and a block. Russell had 12 digs, two assists, three aces and a block. Battles had seven digs and an assist and Miller had two digs.
