A memorial service for Howard Paul Fowler, 82, of Hartselle was Monday, May 25, at 12 noon at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Dr. Jeff Redmond and Dr. Ron Wilson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
A private graveside service was held for the family.
Mr. Fowler died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Woodcrest Health Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was born in Birmingham on August 30, 1926, to Edd Lee Fowler and Ammie Hill Fowler. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy in 1953. After graduation, he practiced pharmacy in Birmingham, Blountsville and Hartselle. He and his wife, Marie N. Fowler, owned Fowler Drugs in Hartselle for 35 years. He served three years in World War II and was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving as a deacon and member of numerous church committees. He was an avid supporter of Hartselle High School, Auburn University and the University of Alabama athletics. He was a member of the Civitan, Chamber of Commerce and a director of the original Community Bank and Trust in Hartselle. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie NeSmith Fowler; his parents; and a brother, Leslie Wade Fowler.
He is survived by a son, H. Leslie Fowler, M.D. of Tuscaloosa; a daughter, Karen Fowler Howell and husband Trevor of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Bayley Vincent Fowler, Leslie Collier Fowler, John Brandon Blair Fowler, Braden McGinnis Fowler, Lesley Ann Howell Owen and husband Brandon, Marie Louise Howell and Mary Fowler Howell; a great-grandson, James Howell Owen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Trevor Howell and Brandon Owen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hartselle, 210 Woodland Street NW, Hartselle, AL 35640.
