Funeral for Ophelia Floretta Everett, 86, of Lansing, Mich, formerly of Hartselle, was Saturday, Sept. 6, at noon at Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church in Hartselle.
Mrs. Everett died August 31, 2008, in Lansing, Mich. She was born July 30, 1922, in Hartselle to Scott and Lillis McDaniel. .She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, choir member and a member of the Missionaries and Stewardess board. She was very active in her community and was a past president of the Morgan County Training School PTA. She also taught school for two years before becoming a devoted housewife and mother. She moved to Akron, Ohio to live with her daughter, Rolene, in 2005 and later moved to Lansing, Mich. to live with her daughter, Evelyn. While residing in Lansing she became an associate member of Mask Memorial C.M.E. Church, where she was active in Sunday school and was considered the mother of the church. In recognition of her contributions to the church she received the Mid-Michigan Lifetime Good Workmanship Missionary Award. She enjoyed Bible study and often would teach a Bible class. She was not shy and often spoke out if she truly felt that things were not in proper order. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix J. Everett; a brother, George McDaniel; and a sister, Alene Betts.
She is survived by two daughters, Rolene Hagins of Akron, Ohio and Evelyn Young of Lansing, Mich; a brother, Reuben Oldacre and wife Ruby of Detroit, Mich; three grandchildren, Edith Young and Christopher Everett, both of Lansing, Mich. and Anthony L. Young Jr. and wife Leslie of Lawrenceville, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
