Marie NeSmith Fowler

A memorial service for Marie NeSmith Fowler, 82, of Hartselle was Sunday, Apr. 6, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Dr. Ron Wilson and Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating.
A private graveside service was conducted under the direction of Peck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fowler died Thursday, Apr. 3, 2008, at Decatur General Hospital. She grew up in Blountsville, entered Howard College (Samford University) in 1944 and graduated with a BS degree in pharmacy in 1948. After graduation, she became the first female registered pharmacist in Blount County. She and her husband, Howard P. Fowler, owned and operated Fowler Drugs in Hartselle for many years. As a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle for 50 years, she chaired every church committee at some point, including the finance, personnel and property committees. She was known throughout her community for her leadership, strength of character, devotion to family, service through her profession and ministry to those in need of assistance and encouragement. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard NeSmith, Carl NeSmith, Tally NeSmith and Bobby NeSmith.
She is survived by her husband, Howard P. Fowler of Hartselle, a son, Dr. H. Leslie Fowler of Tuscaloosa; a daughter, Karen Fowler Howell and husband Trevor of Nashville; a brother, Grady NeSmith; seven grandchildren, Bayley Fowler, Beau Fowler, Blair Fowler, Braden Fowler, Lesley Ann Howell Owen and husband Brandon, Marie Louise Howell and Mary Fowler Howell.
Pallbearers were grandsons and Trevor Howell and Brandon Owen.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hartselle or the Marie Fowler Lectureship Fund at Samford University, 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229.
