Falkville falls to Hatton in area final

HATTON - Falkville needed a win over Hatton Monday afternoon to claim the Class 2A, Area 15 championship.
Hatton pitcher Darren Hand made sure the Blue Devils would settle for the runner-up finish after he limited Falkville to just three hits in an 11-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Rudy Beck Field.
Hatton added an 11-0 victory in the second game to finish unbeaten in area play this season.
Hatton scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning with just four hits. The Hornets scored two runs on passed balls.
Falkville’s only run in the doubleheader came in the top of the fifth inning in the opening game when Zach Moore drove in a run with a groundout to third.
Hand finished with three hits in the win.
The Blue Devils will open the Class 2A playoffs on the road at either Phil Campbell or Mars Hill.
Hand added a solo homer for the Hornets in the opener, while Caleb Hatton added a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third inning as Hatton took an 8-0 lead.
Priceville 10, Fairview 5
Jared Taylor had three hits in Priceville’s 10-5 victory over Fairview Monday.
Jeremy Hale and Eli Allen had two singles each for the Bulldogs, who improved to 10-18 with the win.
Taylor had two RBIs for the Bulldogs, while Hale added an RBI.
Eric Plemons got the win after striking out five in five innings of work.
Danville 10, Hanceville 0
Danville improved to 24-4 overall with a 10-0 win over Hanceville Monday afternoon.
Randy Thomason drove in three runs and finished with two singles for the Hawks. Bryan Rogers drove in two runs with a pair of singles.
Danville also got hits from Zach Ward, Dakota Wilson, Jake Mahathy, Roger Smith, Jacob Young and Cole Veazey in the rout.
Wilson allowed just two hits to earn the win, his fifth of the season in six decisions. He struck out three.
Softball
Falkville 2, Catholic 1
Falkville evened its record at 6-6 with a win over Catholic.
Sarah Goodman hit a 2-run walkl-off homer in the seventh inning to send the Lady Devils to the win.
Megan Hill had two hits to pace the Lady Blue Devils, while Haley Stinson, Malorie Miner and Hilary Eason all added singles.
Katelynn Smith earned the win after allowing just four hits in five innings. She finished with a pair of strikeouts.
Danville 5, Tanner 3
Kelsey Bell drove in two runs and Michelle Smith, Mallory George and Taylor Walton drove in one run each as Danville beat Tanner 5-3.
Brittany Atkins struck out five over five innings. Regan Laroche finished up with three strikeouts in two innings of work.
Danville 9, Good Hope 4
Nicole Linderman and Mallory George drove in two runs each as Danville picked up a 9-4 victory over Good Hope.
Linderman, Breanna Callahan, Sarah Terry and Kirby Wallace all had two hits each. The Lady Hawks also got hits from George, Kelsey Bell, Brittany Atkins and Hannah Little.
Atkins finished with eight strikeouts.
Soccer
Hartselle wins pair
Hartselle Lady Tigers earned a pair of wins last week in back-to-back matches.
Hartselle beat Danville 9-0 last Thursday and added a 4-3 section win over Cullman.
Priceville 4, St. Bernard 2
Priceville got goals from Amanda Woodson, Stephanie Varner, Jordan Crow and Alisha Burchell.
