Funeral for Tommie Dorcas Stewart, 86, of Hartselle was Monday, Mar. 3, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with John Nelson and Robert Kyker officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Stewart died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at her residence, She was born April 10, 1921, in Sulfur Springs to Edgar and Mary Lowry Ellis. From the age of two, Mrs. Stewart was raised in Ft. Payne. She graduated from high school there and was crowned Miss DeKalb County.
She married J.C. Stewart Sept. 11, 1940. During Col. Stewart’s distinguished military career in the U.S. Air Force, they lived in numerous places including Germany. After 20 years in the Air Force, the Stewarts moved to Hartselle in 1962. Mrs. Stewart was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She was active in the Hartselle Crepe Myrtle Garden Club and was an avid golfer and a member of Burningtree Country Club. She participated in numerous golf tournaments and was a member of the Alabama Ladies Golf Association.
She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her home and yard. She was noted for her beautiful yard and loved nothing better than showing her beautiful flowers to her friends and neighbors. Her passions were her love for life and her family.
She is survived by two sons, James M. Stewart and wife Rita of Helena, Mont. and Guy F. Stewart and wife Carrie of Bixby, Okla; three daughters, Dorcas A. McIntosh and husband Gary of Priceville, Sandra E. Kyker and husband Bob of Hartselle and Alisa Nelson and husband John of White Lake, Mich.; a brother, Ted Ellis and wife Cricket of North Augusta, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Kyker, Kyle Kuzdek, Loch McIntosh, John Hurley, Keith Fisk and Tracey Townsend.
