PRICEVILLE - Priceville High School center fielder Matt Croft signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Southern Union Community College at Wadley on Monday.
A senior, he will enroll at the central Alabama Junior College later this year after he completes his high school baseball career.
Croft was the Bulldogs’ leading hitter as a junior with a .465 batting average. He knocked in 27 runs, had 20 doubles, five home runs and led his team in steals with 25. He is also an A-B honor student.
Southern Union head coach Joe Jordan said of Croft, “We feel like he’ll be our center fielder and bat either one, two or three in our lineup in 2009. We’re tickled to death he chose to play for us. He has a good arm, runs well and hits well with bat strength. Plus, he’s an excellent student.”
Southern Union is a member of the Southern Divison of the Alabama Junior College Athletic Conference. Coach Jordan’s team finished third in division play and second in the regional finals in 2007.
