John Gilbert Cook Sr.

Funeral for Mr. John Gilbert Cook Sr., 66, of Somerville was Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Somerville with Dr. O. Wendell Davis officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Cook died June 27, 2007. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Freddie Cook Jr. and Robert Cook.
He was a decorated U. S. Army retiree who served during the Vietnam War. He also retired after 21 years of civil service with the Naval Construction Battalion in Gulfport, Miss. He was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Pass Christian, Miss., where he held several positions including chairman of the deacon board.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jewel Ann Burton Cook of Somerville; two sons, John Cook Jr. and wife Bonita of Birmingham and Frederick (Pammy) Cook of Gulfport; a daughter, Deborah Larry and husband Kevin of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Edith Cook and husband Freddie of Pass Christian; Deborah Holman and husband Thomas of Somerville and Barbara Dixon of Huntsville; four brothers-in-law, Joseph Burton and wife Patricia Charlie Burton and wife Lou Ellen and William Burton, all of Somerville, and James Burton and wife Deborah of Hartselle; a special brother, Colbert Hogue; two aunts; three uncles; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
U.S. military personnel served as pallbearers.
