Hartselle School Board has approved its 2007-2008 school calendar. It also recommended that school officials schedule athletic events and other extracurricular activities around the weekend before and during the week of first semester finals.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reid told the board the school calendar he recommended was the result of each school having the opportunity to present two proposed calendars.
On a motion made by Jennifer Sittason, the board agreed to change the way the calendar is handled for the 2008-09 school year. A committee will be appointed with representatives from each school, and a representative from the PTO and a non-certified staff member.
Dr. Reed suggested the committee do its work well before coaches of fall and winter sports schedule games for their upcoming seasons.
Barkley Bridge Elementary School Principal Susan Hayes said she felt the result of a school calendar committee sitting down and talking would be a positive thing.
