A Decatur man survived one crash only to be critically injured when he was struck by a car that swerved to miss the wreck.
Morgan County Central Dispatch received a call Dec. 22 reporting an accident on Highway 67 near Hickory Hills Road. Investigators at the scene said a 1994 Dodge Stealth was southbound on Highway 67 when the driver, a male who has not been identified, lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge struck the southbound guardrail and stopped in the northbound lane of Highway 67. The man apparently got out of his vehicle and was standing in an unlit area of the left northbound lane of Highway 67.
Then, a 2000 Buick Century driven by Brian Davis, 33, of Somerville, approached northbound on Highway 67 from Upper River Road. Davis swerved to miss the damaged Stealth and struck the man in the leftbound lane of Highway 67.
The man was transported by Decatur EMS to Decatur General Hospital and later transferred to Huntsville Hospital. He was listed in critical condition at presstime.
Davis was uninjured in the accident.
