Mrs. Beth Howell Broom, who passed away recently, was one of Hartselle's most gracious and talented ladies. Her contributions to community life over a period of many years were innumerable.
May 11, 1944 -Beth Howell is the only junior at MCHS to make the first honor roll.
May 12, 1952 -Beth Howell and Horace Broom, one of Hartselle's most popular young couples, are busily engaged in making plans related to their upcoming marriage.
May 12, 1948 -Beth Howell and Carolyn Stewart, top scholars at MCHS, have been accepted for admission to Birmingham-Southern College. They will begin classes at the Magic City school in the fall. Beth will be a music major.
May 13, 1938 -Beth Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Howell, has now fully recovered from the attack of measles she suffered from recently.
May 14, 1936 -Beth Howell is the top student in the third grade at Hartselle Elementary School.
May 14, 1959 -Horace and Beth Broom are outstanding representatives of Hartselle as they host industrial prospects. Mr. Broom is secretary-treasurer of the local industrial development board.
May 15, 1975 -Mr. and Mrs. Horace Broom returned recently from the annual meeting of the Alabama Bankers' Association. Mr. Broom is the newly elected president of the association.
May 16, 1945 –On Friday evening, May 25, the Morgan County High School will graduate its 34th group of seniors. The class will present a pageant based on the history of the school, which will serve as a part of their graduation program. Beth Howell is scheduled to perform "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "Deep Purple," and "When I Grow Too Old to Dream."
May 16, 1949 -Friends and relatives of Beth Howell and Horace Broom are looking forward to their return home for the summer following the end of classes.
May 17, 1940 –Beth Howell will visit her friend Susan Patterson in Lacon next week. During the visit Beth and Susan will travel to Cullman to take in the annual strawberry festival.
May 17, 1944 -Beth Howell has signed up to work at the American Red Cross Room in Decatur during the summer.
